MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) – Ghana President John Dramani Mahama was impressed with what he saw in Brest Fortress. He mentioned it during expanded-attendance negotiations with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 8 June, BelTA has learned.
The head of state thanked the Belarusian side for the invitation to visit Belarus and for the hospitality they had received. He remarked that prior to the official negotiations the delegation went to Brest Oblast where they could appreciate the potential of bilateral cooperation as well as the beauty of Belarusian nature.
But the stay in this Belarusian region had another side for the foreign guests – educational. John Dramani Mahama mentioned he had visited the WW2 memorial Brest Fortress, which has a special significance for him personally. “I studied history at university and I taught history in school. This is why my visit to Brest Fortress was very interesting. I was impressed. I had read about it in history textbooks earlier. It was an opportunity to see with my own eyes the fortress that people had defended heroically,” the Ghana president said.
